PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Treatment of recurrent respiratory papilloma, whether in its pediatric or adult form, is a challenging problem with no best practice yet identified. There has been much anecdotal or single institutional reporting of various adjuvant therapies that have been utilized when an affected individual necessitates more than 3 or 4 procedures in a year, or experiences spread of the disease outside of the larynx. The goals of such treatment would be to improve the airway for a prolonged period of time, to limit the number of treatments in a given year, and to preserve or perhaps even enhance the voice. This panel represents key thought leaders who have clinical experience with Cidofovir, Artemisinin, Avastin, or Gardasil. Through a series of case discussions, the panelists will explore the literature and their experience with deciding which adjuvant they would choose, why, when, and with what outcome noted. The overall goal then is to provide otolaryngologists with a framework with which to better understand the surgical choices they make when offering adjuvant therapy to their patients.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: 1) Be able to understand the mechanism of action of each of the adjuvants discussed. 2) Understand the dosing and the potential side effects of each adjuvant discussed.
