Abstract

Objectives: Reconstruction of rhinectomy defects has always been a daunting task. A successful reconstruction must be functional and cosmetically acceptable. We provide our evolving experience of nasal reconstruction to include use of free flaps combined with regional flaps to address these challenging defects.
Methods: Retrospective review of patients who have undergone nasal reconstruction for rhinectomy defects. A description of the simultaneous technique and rationale of flap design is provided.
Results: 12 patients in the study period were reviewed. All regional flaps and free flaps survived. All patients were functionally reconstructed and had an acceptable appearance.
Conclusion: Simultaneous use of free flaps and regional flaps allows for use of replacement of significant amounts of tissues for the functional reconstruction of rhinectomy defects while at the same time providing an acceptable appearance.
