Abstract

Program Evaluation
The response to this survey has been very strong with over 950 surveys returned. Overall the support for the MOPS Program has been favourable, though the many criticisms and comments have provided a wealth of information to advise the further progress of the evaluation.
Using the suggestions put forward through the survey and answering to the concerns of respondents, the MOPS Program will be modified to make it more user friendly and accessible.
The second stage of the evaluation will include consulting the Fellowship through focus groups to seek further feedback and guidance. The focus groups will be drawn from respondents to the survey and will be formed around particular issues of relevance in the evaluation, for example a group of those who are concerned about the amount of documentation and bureaucracy.
Evaluation submissions
As part of the evaluation process, submissions describing problem areas or suggesting changes will be considered and it is hoped psychiatrists will present ideas both for new activities and for changes to the current activities, that will strengthen the current program.
Please forward any submissions or ideas to the MOPS Office at the address below.
MOPS Returns
Returns forms have been received from 688 participants being 78.4% of the total enrolled for 1996–98. The 189 who have not returned points claims will remain enrolled in MOPS and can return points for 1999 in January 2000 in the usual way but they will no longer be able to return points from before 1999.
Of the 688 returns, 40 have gained more than 1000 points. There are many more who are within 300 points of the total and who will no doubt, complete all the requirements of MOPS within their five year period.
The first group to enrol in MOPS in 1996 numbered 340. Of these 249 have returned points claims with 34 of these having totals of over 1000 points. With two years of their five year MOPS period ahead of them many of this group will meet all requirements with ease.
It is expected that for most psychiatrists the documenting of participation in continuing education and quality improvement is mainly a reporting of their usual participation in these activities. For some psychiatrists it will require extra effort to achieve the requirements of the Program.
Psychiatrists having difficulty determining how to achieve the requirements of the MOPS Program are invited to contact the MOPS Coordinator for support and advice.
