Abstract

DEAR SIR,
I am writing about the recent actions of the Executive concerning the future of the Governor-General of Australia as Patron of the College. Frankly, the Executive has never looked more ridiculous. It first gives the Governor-General barely a week to respond to a detailed letter when he might have had a few other things to worry about such as a Royal visit and the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting. Then when he does reply, the Executive can't make a decision. To plagiarise the old joke about psychiatrists and light bulbs: How many psychiatrists does it take to change the Governor-General? Answer: It doesn't matter, the Governor-General has to want to change himself.
The Executive should have waited to the Annual General Meeting before dipping its collective toes in this rather murky water.
