We warmly invite all Fellows and trainees to attend the next College Congress in Hobart.
Now is the time to consult your diaries and plan your own schedule of educational and recreational activities for Congress week. The pre-Congress workshops will take place on Sunday 11th May and the conference sessions from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th May 2003. This provides an opportunity to extend your stay over the weekend before or after Congress and enjoy some of Tasmania's renowned attractions such as Salamanca Saturday Market, the atmospheric Port Arthur Convict Ruins, Freycinet or Cradle Mountain National Parks, the many fine wineries, hug the tall trees in the Styx Valley, the list goes on …
During Congress, we are arranging a variety of extra-mural events for those with special interests. These will be small group tours hosted by local Fellows and featuring nearby sights and locales, most within walking distance of the conference centre. Topics include:
Tasmanian antiques,
gardens,
historical outings,
fitness activities, and
art, music and literature appreciation.
We value Fellowship highly and aim to make you welcome and share affinities and experiences.
The most important aspect of Congress is participation. For the Hobart Congress this has been greatly facilitated by modern communications and we have been in regular contact with Faculties, Sections, Special Interest Groups and the Association of Psychiatrists in Training, working with their nominated liaison persons to develop interesting and topical educational strands within Congress.
For the first time at Congress, we have supported ten invited strand speakers, in addition to the overseas keynote speakers, so there will be many foci for discussion and debate about issues important to delegates. In addition we look forward to many interesting presentations from delegates within strand and free paper sessions. In Australia and New Zealand we are fortunate to have many people who variously think carefully, feel sensitively, care passionately and research and evaluate rigorously the mental health issues confronting our society. Sharing these perspectives is the essence of Congress, embodied in our theme of mutual interests.
