Abstract

Organon Senior Research Award
The Organon Senior Research Award is made annually to the Fellow or Fellows of the College, who, in the opinion of the Prizes and Awards Committee, have made the most significant contribution to psychiatric research in Australia and New Zealand over the preceding two years. The award comprises a Citation plus A$10,000 which is to be used at the discretion of the recipient(s) for the furthering of their research. Work performed partly in Australia/New Zealand and partly elsewhere will be acceptable. Application for the award may be made by self-nomination or nominations may be made by colleagues.
Organon Junior Research Award
The Organon Junior Research Award is made annually to the Fellow or Fellows of the College who, in the opinion of the Prizes and Awards Committee, have contributed the most significant paper presented at the immediately preceding Congress or who have otherwise published or presented the most significant research material within five years of their election to Fellowship of the College. The award comprises a Citation plus A$2,500 and travel assistance to attend presentation of the award at Annual Congress. Work performed partly in Australia/New Zealand and partly elsewhere will be acceptable. Applications for the award may be made by self-nomination or nominations may be made on their behalf by colleagues.
Lilly Psychiatry Fellowship
The Lilly Psychiatry Fellowship recognizes and supports research in psychiatry in Australia and New Zealand by providing a Fellowship to graduates in medicine who have successfully completed the Section I Examination towards Fellowship of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and wish to commence or continue a career of research in psychiatry.
The Fellowship is administered by the Lilly Psychiatry Fellowship Committee of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and funded by Eli Lilly Australia Pty Limited. The stipend is A$30,000 plus an additional A$5000 for equipment/ incidentals. The Fellowship will be awarded for research to be carried out in Australia or New Zealand.
Mark Sheldon Prize
The Mark Sheldon Prize was established in 2000 to honour the memory of College Fellow, Dr Mark Sheldon. The Prize consists of a medallion and certificate (bearing a brief description of the work of Dr Mark Sheldon and the reason for the award established in his memory) together with a bound copy of his dissertation. The Prize recognizes the meritorious work done in service provision or research to advance knowledge and understanding of indigenous mental health. This work may have been recorded in a Section II dissertation, but not necessarily. The work should be undertaken, where possible, within the first five years after completing Section I of the requirements for Fellowship of the College.

Section on Addiction Psychiatry Dissertation Prize
An annual prize for the best dissertation on a drug and alcohol theme is made available by the College Section on Alcohol and Other Drugs. It is open to candidates successfully elected to Fellowship in a calendar year, having earned a mark of 7 or more from the Committee for Examinations. In the event of two outstanding dissertations, joint prizes will be awarded. The prize comprises a cash award of A$750. Please note: this prize is awarded on the basis of dissertation results reviewed by the Selection Committee; it is not open to separate application.
Rowley Richards Award
The Rowley Richards Award was established in 2000 as an annual award to recognize the most meritorious dissertation related to war or trauma studies. The Award was established with a bequest from the New South Wales Ex-Prisoners of War Association ‘in recognition of the tremendous assistance to our members over the years in the sphere of posttraumatic stress disorder arising out of their incarceration in both Japanese and European theatres of war’. Dr Rowley Richards was patron of the Association and a prisoner of war under the Japanese, and the award is named in his honour. The Award consists of a medallion, bearing the emblem of the Association, and a certificate. Please note: this prize is awarded on the basis of dissertation results reviewed by the Selection Committee; it is not open to separate application.

Psychiatry Elective Scholarship for Indigenous Medical Students
General Council of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) awards an annual Scholarship of AU$2,500 for a medical student of indigenous background in each of Australia and New Zealand to pursue an elective in psychiatry during their undergraduate course. A list of requirements for applications can be obtained from the College Secretariat.
