Abstract

The College welcomes Dr Naleen Naupaka Andrade to Australia and New Zealand as our HB Williams Professor for 2003. Fellows and Trainees will have an opportunity to meet and learn from Dr Andrade during her visit to both countries later in the year. Contact your local Branch office for more information.
Dr Andrade is Professor and Chair of the University of Hawai'i, John A. Burns School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry. She is also Principal Investigator and Director of the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Peoples Mental Health Research Programs, and serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees at The Queen's Medical Center, Hawai'i's largest private tertiary academic medical center. Dr Andrade completed her MD and psychiatry residency training at the University of Hawai'i, John A Burns School of Medicine. Her post-graduate education included clinical executive training at the Harvard School of Public Health.
A major focus of Dr Andrade's professional career has been the advancement of Native Hawai'ians (Hawai'i's indigenous people), who like Native American and Alaskan natives, suffer from some of the worst health, education, and socioeconomic statistics in the US. Her research studies include the longitudinal epidemiological study of over 7,000 Hawaiian adolescents and determines the prevalence of psychiatric disorders and the role of culture in mental health among Hawai'i's indigenous people.
Dr Andrade is a Director of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Fellow and Regent of the American College of Psychiatrists, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Her honors include the Sigma Xi outstanding research award, the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry's Ginsberg Fellowship, and selected to the Best Doctors in America-Pacific Region.
