Professor Germain Grisez and Father Ford would seem to support the view that an amoeba ceases to exist when it divides to form two replicas. An alternative description is to hold that the original amoeba loses part of itself and the part forms a new individual in much the same way as a willow tree remains itself when a cutting is taken and the cutting develops as another individual tree.
