Abstract
The new editorial team at PsyEcology will continue working towards the progressive evolution of the journal as the field of Environmental Psychology grows and develops, whilst also responding to the demands derived from the communication of scientific findings in this area.
The founder and previous editor, Professor Hernández, has always been highly attentive to such processes and, consequently, gradually transformed the journal, from its first publication in the year 2000, under the title Medio Ambiente y Comportamiento Humano, to its current form, PsyEcology. As we enter this new era, it is unlikely that there will be any changes as significant as the ones overcome from its birth to its maturity, as the journal found its place in the world of academic publishing. PsyEcology has an established editorial operation and a cutting-edge global publication platform, such as Taylor & Francis Online. In terms of subject matter and quality, the contributions submitted to the journal are on a par with internationally renowned journals in the field of Environmental Psychology.
In this new era, the development of the journal will be more contingent on the need to improve its position in the international academic arena, pursuing the dual (and inextricably linked) objectives of securing its status as a leading publication and essential reference for environmental psychologists all around the world, and increasing its presence and raising its impact in citation indexes.
The essence of the journal, its core, is and will continue to be Environmental Psychology, encompassing two of its important sensibilities: different theoretical and methodological perspectives whereby relations between humans and their environment are studied; and a focus on the blurred lines that separate Environmental Psychology from numerous fields of knowledge such as Geography, Urbanism, Architecture, or Environmental Sciences, among others. The aim is to ensure that the contents of PsyEcology do not become diluted in the dialectical tension between ‘being and not being’, which has been evident throughout the history of Environmental Psychology. The new editorial team will pay particularly close attention to this aspect, seeking to ensure that PsyEcology continues to provide a channel for scientific dissemination within this discipline.
Hence, as always, the journal will feature contributions and manuscripts submitted by researchers in its regular issues. Furthermore,” the editorial team will further the journal’s commitment to covering globally relevant issues by launching a special section in each issue that discusses the current status of a relevant issue, and numerous monographic editions will also be proposed to stimulate debate among researchers.
Finally, one particularly prominent feature of PsyEcology is the close attention it has always paid to the international academic arena and specifically within Ibero-America, supported among other factors by a bilingual project, which has allowed the journal to expand firstly and then to consolidate its position. This aspect highlights the international vocation imprinted by the previous team, which will be renewed and reinforced during this new stage.
PsyEcology could be considered the third most important offline general journal in the field of Environmental Psychology. Over the years, the number of contributing authors has gone from strength to strength, as has the journal’s international scope. The publication, which was initially limited to Hispanic contexts (Spain and Latin America), has gradually incorporated authors from other European countries and beyond. In spite of the data, the publication has yet to achieve figures that would class it as a leading journal in this field internationally. However, given its privileged situation within the area of study, the renewal of its editorial team and the new editorial committee, it could well be included in the WoS in the area of Multidisciplinary Psychology sooner rather than later.
In conclusion, this editorial addresses all those who have previously contributed to the journal, inviting them to continue placing their trust in us, and encouraging all other interested researchers to submit their manuscripts, which will be evaluated in accordance with strict criteria prior to publication.

La nueva dirección editorial de PsyEcology espera continuar impulsando una evolución paulatina de la revista de acuerdo con el desarrollo de la Psicología Ambiental, así como con las demandas derivadas de la comunicación de los resultados científicos en el área.
A este tipo de procesos siempre ha estado atento el fundador y editor anterior, el profesor Hernández, quien supo ir transformado aquella revista aparecida en el año 2000 bajo el título Medio Ambiente y Comportamiento Humano hasta convertirla en la actual PsyEcology. Probablemente en esta nueva etapa no se registrará un cambio tan significativo como el que representa el camino del nacimiento a la madurez, con los múltiples ensayos hasta alcanzar la consolidación. La revista PsyEcology cuenta con un establecido funcionamiento editorial, una plataforma de difusión técnicamente puntera y de alcance mundial como es Taylor & Francis Online, y unas contribuciones que quedan por temática y por calidad al nivel de las revistas internacionales más establecidas en esta área como es la nuestra de la Psicología Ambiental.
En esta nueva etapa, su desarrollo será más contingente a la necesidad de mejorar su posición en el espacio académico internacional, con el objetivo doble (e inextricablemente ligado) de situarla como publicación de cabecera y referencia indispensable para los psicólogos ambientales de todo el mundo, y de aumentar su presencia y elevar su impacto en los índices de citas.
La esencia de la revista, su elemento nuclear, es y será la Psicología Ambiental recogiendo dos de sus importantes sensibilidades: las diferentes perspectivas teóricas y metodológicas desde las que se estudian las relaciones entre el ser humano y el ambiente, y la atención a las líneas difusas que separan a la Psicología Ambiental de numerosos campos de conocimiento como la Geografía, el Urbanismo, la Arquitectura o las Ciencias Ambientales, entre otras. Con esto, se pretende que los contenidos de PsyEcology no se diluyan en la tensión dialéctica entre ‘ser y no ser’ que se ha evidenciado a lo largo de la historia de la Psicología Ambiental. El nuevo equipo editorial estará especialmente atento a este aspecto de modo que PsyEcology continúe siendo un órgano de divulgación científica de esta disciplina.
Por ello y como hasta el momento presente, la revista atenderá a través de los números ordinarios las contribuciones y manuscritos enviados por los investigadores. Así mismo, el equipo editorial renovará el compromiso de la revista de atender a los temas relevantes que aparezcan a nivel global, para ello va abrir una sección en cada número en el que se presentará el estado actual de un tema que se considere relevante y asimismo se propondrán números monográficos que faciliten el debate entre los investigadores.
Finalmente, si se ha de apuntar un aspecto a destacar de PsyEcology es la atención prestada desde sus inicios tanto al entorno académico internacional como al ámbito específico iberoamericano, apoyándose entre otros factores en un proyecto bilingüe, y que ha posibilitado una expansión de la revista en el primero y una amplia consolidación en el segundo. Este aspecto muestra la vocación internacional impresa por el equipo anterior, y que se renovará y reforzará durante la actual etapa.
PsyEcology bien podría ser considerada la tercera revista general de la Psicología Ambiental no online. El número de autores, así como su grado de internalización, ha ido creciendo con el tiempo. La publicación, en un principio más limitada a los contextos hispanos (España y Latinoamérica), ha pasado a incorporar autores de diferentes países europeos y de otras latitudes. A pesar de los datos señalados, la publicación no ha alcanzado aún cifras que permitan hablar de una revista referencial en el mundo internacional del campo. Sin embargo, dada su privilegiada situación en el área de estudio, la renovación de su equipo editorial y del nuevo comité editorial bien podría pensarse que más pronto que tarde sea incluida en la WoS en el área de Multidiciplinary Psychology.
Para concluir, este editorial se dirige a todos los que anteriormente han colaborado con la revista, invitándoles a que sigan confiando en ella y anima a todos los demás investigadores interesados a que envíen sus manuscritos, que con rigurosos criterios serán evaluados antes de ser publicados.
