Abstract
Polymers were synthesized by the condensation of 2-hydroxy-4-meth-oxyacetophenone with thiourea and trioxane in the presence of 2 M HCI or H2S04 as a catalyst and varying molar proportions of reactants. The polymers were characterized by elemental analyses and IR spectral studies. The number average molecular weights of polymers were determined by vapour pressure osmometry and non-aqueous conductometrc titrations in pyridine. Viscosity measurements were carried out in DMF. A study of the thermal properties of the polymers has also been carried out.
