Introduction
Web-based tools are often utilized to augment self-management activities. Adolescents are comfortable with the use of the Internet and more than 90% of teens have Internet access. 1 Adolescents often find it difficult to access traditional healthcare services and find the use of the Internet fast, easy, and confidential. One study that examined the willingness of adolescents with chronic health conditions to use Internet health resource sites found that the important characteristics for teens were ease of use, frequency of information updates, medical need, and interaction with other teens. 2
A search for available web resources for adolescents related to bariatric surgery found information was limited to the specific websites of centers offering bariatric surgery for adolescents. Some of these websites include patient testimonies, data about surgical outcomes, and links to program Facebook pages.

Feeding Your Kids is a 42-day program for parents that incorporates small behavior changes over time. The goal is to help parents encourage their children to develop healthy eating habits that last a lifetime. Each morning, a message is sent by e-mail and text presenting a topic of the day. It includes activities to try and resources for the parent. In the afternoon, support messages to help with the day's topic are sent. A PDF if provided at the completion of the program with all of the information.

This initiative was launched by Michelle Obama to help solve the challenge of childhood obesity. The website provides parents with helpful information about healthy food choices and exercise. It includes community action information as well. This site is most appropriate for parents of young children and early adolescents.

In addition, it allows the user to map running, cycling, and walking routes to share with friends. It also provides a calculator for calories burned based on activity and intake. There is a smartphone app as well. The site provides unique information based on the personal profile entered and provides recommendations for local trainers as well as fitness books and videos.

It provides a wide variety of information including side-by-side comparison of more than 8,000 food items, a food tracker to track daily intake, and virtual coaching. A weight management feature allows the user to track progress over time. There is a lot of information and allows for personalization but may take some time to navigate all of the options.

This is a research-based snack rating system developed by the Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Snacks are rated for their nutrient density. Snacks that are high in calories, sugar, fat, and sodium receive lower ratings, while snacks with protein, calcium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and fiber receive higher marks. The site includes a frequently updated snack list, or users can enter the product information directly from the snack label into the calculator.
