Abstract

It is with mixed feelings that I announce the retirement of Lorraine Morra. Lorraine has been “in charge” of the journal from the time the Journal of Aerosol Medicine (JAM) went digital. I first met Lorraine shortly after my family moved to Stony Brook in 1980. In 1987, she joined our physiology laboratory and helped me develop our techniques of aerosol delivery and measurement. The Macintosh was invented, and she became a PowerPoint natural, preparing presentations that put us on the map. With the advent of Scholar One, she took over the management of the JAM that became the JAMPDD (Journal of Aerosol Medicine and Pulmonary Drug Delivery). Lorraine made sure your uploads were properly done (or you were “rescinded”). Operating the journal was smooth and effortless because she did the legwork and kept track of the operation. She traveled to meetings and ran the ISAM (International Society of Aerosols in Medicine) booth, giving out flyers and journals, showing the flag to increase membership. In the background, she did her other job, running my laboratory, training fellows in laboratory techniques, and doing top quality artwork for articles. The time has come for her to retire and we all accept that but, for me and the people in my laboratory, we still meet to discuss data and our articles “at Lorraine's desk and use Lorraine's iMac.” We wish her well.
