Nurse Practitioners are accountable to themselves, the patient, their employer (who is not always a GP) and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. In a case of possible negligence, the Nurse Practitioner takes all the responsibility herself and the GP does not have vicarious liability. So, I still stand by my statement that where nurses are doing the same work as GPs, they should be paid the same.
I cannot comment on the issue of out-of-hours services.
