Abstract

In the Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA), what should I do if I am in the middle of a case and I think I am getting nowhere and missing the point?
Try and work out what's going wrong. Are you looking for a perceived hidden agenda that doesn't exist, or have you simply missed the point? Questions that may help when you are struggling include ‘What were you hoping I could do for you today?’ or ‘Is there anything else you want to tell me?’ Role players are briefed on when to disclose information and, just like real patients, they may not share parts of their history with you until you have won their trust. Sometimes you have to take a step or two back in order to move forwards.
If you have a question that you would like to ask an examiner about, please e-mail your question to: innovait.
