For the first 7 days of sickness, a patient completes a self-certificate:
SC1 is used if the patient is self-employed or unemployed
SC2 is used if the patient is in employment and the employers do not have their own self-certification forms Statutory sick pay (SSP) is payable for a maximum of 28 weeks. If the patient is still incapable of work after 28 weeks, they make a claim for Employment and Support Allowance (ESA).
