Abstract

Idiopathic calcium nephrolithiasis is the most common cause of urinary stones, accounting for 80% of cases. They are typically radio-opaque. Of all calcium stones, 75% are due to calcium oxalate. Berries, cocoa and spinach are all rich in oxalate. Hypercalciuria, hypercalcaemia, hyperoxaluria, hypocitraturia and hyperuricosuria are also recognized risk factors.
