Abstract

The International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism organizes regular summer schools in key areas of its research field. The schools are didactic and interactive in style with a mixture of lectures and workshops. It should be emphasized that the summer school is not just another scientific meeting. The intention is to bring junior researchers together with more senior investigators in an informal, residential, teaching environment. The 1996 Autumn School, organized by J. C. Baron with J. McCulloch and E. T. MacKenzie as co-organizers, will be held in Abbaye D'Ardenne, Caen, France, October 25–28, 1996. The theme will be “Neurodegeneration: From Molecular Biology to Neuroimaging.” The resident faculty will include Flint Beal, Konrad Beyreuther, David Brooks, Hidenao Fukuyama, Cheryl Grady, Philippe Hantraye, Angus Kennedy, James McCulloch, Trevor Robbins, Garett Roberts, and Jean-Claude Baron among others. The venue is a XIIth century abbey sited in the Normandy countryside and recently refurbished for hosting seminars. Attendance at the summer school is free. The cost of accommodation, meals, etc., will be met by the Society. Attendees will only have to find support for their own travel to the School. Applications for attendance at the Autumn School are now requested. The applications should be two pages (maximum) and should include a brief professional history, up to three publications may be listed and a short statement of why participation in the Autumn School would benefit the individual in his/her research group. Note that attendees will be limited to a total of approximately 30. Send your applications as soon as possible to: Doctor Jean-Claude Baron, INSERM U.320, Centre Cyceron, B.P. 5229, 14074 Caen, France. Tel: (33) 31 47 02 19; Fax: (33) 31 47 02 22; e-mail:
