Abstract
“Where Are We Now?” is a regular feature of Nursing Diagnosis. The column focuses on current issues and trends related to nursing diagnosis development, implementation, and evaluation. This article builds upon Dr. Whitley's presentation of concept analysis as a foundation for validation research which was published in the April-June, 1995 issue of the journal. Dr. Whitley addresses methodological approaches used to validate nursing diagnoses and stresses the value of supplementing quantitative techniques with qualitative data collection. She presents a brief overview of a study of the diagnoses of fear and anxiety which incorporated this approach.
