PURPOSE To explore the caregiving role of nonprofessional caregivers of patients with chronic pain.
METHOD Descriptive study of 30 caregivers.
FINDINGS Twenty-eight (93%) caregivers demonstrated 1 to 6 defining characteristics of caregiver role strain, and 2 (7%) had at least two factors of risk for caregiver role strain.
CONCLUSION Caring for patients with chronic pain has a meaningful impact on caregivers' lives.
PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Caregivers of patients with chronic pain deserve care, not only with the objective of optimizing relief for the patients, but also to help them seek and attain optimal functionality.
BUT Explorer le rôle soignant des aidants naturels auprès de patients souffrant de douleurs chroniques.
MÉTHODES Etude descriptive de 30 aidants naturels.
RÉSULTATS Vingt-huit aidants naturels (93%) ont présenté de 1 à 6 caractéristiques de tension et deux d'entre eux (7%) avaient au moins 2 facteurs favorisant la tension dans l'exercice de leur rôle d'aidant naturel.
CONCLUSIONS Le soin aux patients douloureux chroniques a un impact significatif sur la vie des aidants naturels.
IMPLICATIONS POUR LA PRATIQUE Les aidants naturels des patients douloureux chroniques nécessitent des soins, non seulement pour optimiser le soulagement des patients, mais aussi pour les aider à rechercher et atteindre un fonctionnement optimal.

RESULTADOS Vinte e oito (93%) cuidadores apresentaram entre 1 e 6 características definidoras de tensão devida ao papel do cuidador e 2 (7%) apresentaram pelo menos dois fatores de risco para tensão devida ao papel de cuidado.
CONCLUSÃO Cuidar de pacientes com dor crônica tem um importante impacto na vida do cuidador.
IMPLICAÇÕES PARA A PRÁTICA Os cuidadores de pacientes com dor crônica merecem cuidados, não somente com o objetivo de obter o melhor alívio para os pacientes, mas também para ajuda-los a buscar e a manter a melhor funcionalidade possível.

MÉTODOS Estudio descriptivo de 30 cuidadores.
RESULTADOS Veintiocho (93%) cuidadores demostraron de 1–6 características definitorias de sobrecarga del rol de cuidador, y dos (7%) tenían como mínimo 2 factores de riesgo para sobrecarga del rol de cuidador.
CONCLUSIONES El cuidar a pacientes con dolor crónico, tiene un impacto significativo en las vidas de los cuidadores.
IMPLICACIONES PARA LA PRÁCTICA Los cuidadores de pacientes con dolor crónico, merecen cuidados, no solo con el objetivo de optimizar el alivio a los pacientes, sino también para ayudarles a buscar y conseguir una funcionalidad óptima.
