Abstract

It is an honour to provide the first review of a book for this journal, particularly as it is written by a member of this society. Daniel has produced a 96 page tome, concentrating on the difficult topic of reverse shoulder arthroplasty, its usage, surgical technique as well as rehabilitation and complications. The book is aimed at surgeons at the beginning of exposure to what can be a difficult procedure. The various sections are clearly written and illustrated by figures and x-rays, particularly the drawings which I understand were undertaken by Daniel's son Jonathan. The reader is taken through the surgical technique step by step, each stage being clearly defined, with tips on how to make it proceed more easily. In addition, any potential per operative complications are addressed and advice given. There is also an excellent section on rehabilitation. Finally various complications associated with this prosthesis are described together with recommendations on management.
Overall, this book provides an excellent summary of how to undertake this procedure, together with the pitfalls of the reverse prosthesis, specifically the Delta. As a consequence I believe that it should form essential reading for all surgeons undertaking this particular procedure and indeed would be ideal as part of any surgical technique collection in the operating theatre.
