Abstract

This is an arrangement of a piece originally scored by Mozart for four horns. In D major, the piece lies well for all instruments; there are no C sharps on the G string except for a cello extension in the ritornello section. No fingerings are given in the score, but they can be easily added. The form is similar to a rondo, and Dackow suggests that, in a group “with a wide spread of abilities, the ritornello (opening theme) can be played as tutti alternating with a solo quartet, quintet, or other reduced grouping playing the episodes.” Bowings are meticulously marked for stylistic performance. Notated in 3/8 time, this arrangement provides an excellent study in bow control for young musicians.
