Abstract

In the article “Comparison of Long-Term Outcomes in Real-World Patients Between Resolute Zotarilumus-Eluting and Paclitaxel-Eluting Stents in Small Vessel,” Kilickesmez et al 1 identified the long-term prognostic similarity of Resolute zotarolimus-eluting and paclitaxel-eluting stents in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Kilickesmez et al 1 did not report any data about incidence in patients treated with renin–angiotensin–aldosterone–system (RAAS) blockers. The RAAS blockade is essential to prevent adverse events independent of blood pressure lowering in patients with CAD. 2 Ramipril significantly reduces death and major adverse cardiac events in patients with vascular disease, including CAD, who are not known to have reduced ejection fraction or heart failure. 3 Additionally, telmisartan seems to have a similar benefit in these patients. 4
Significant differences in treatment with RAAS blockers between the groups may cause misleading results in terms of prognosis. Hence, the authors should state the incidence of patients treated with RAAS blockers for each group.
