Abstract

Pados BF, Park J, Thoyre SM. Neonatal Eating Assessment Tool–Bottle-Feeding: Norm-Reference Values for Infants Less Than 7 Months Old. Clinical Pediatrics. 2019;58(8):857-863. doi:10.1177/0009922819839234
The authors contacted the Journal Editor and Sage with a request to update the data in the article. The authors had been alerted by a reader of a possible error in the data. When reviewing the data, the authors determined that the values for the items within the Infant Regulation subscale (i.e., the first 13 items of the 64-item Neonatal Eating Assessment Tool – Bottle-Feeding scale) had been reverse-scored for approximately 40% of the participants. This error impacted the Infant Regulation subscale scores as well as the Total scores. The authors proposed revisions to the article based on the correct data entry.
The Journal Editor and Sage conducted a post-publication review of the suggested revisions to the article. Two independent experts reviewed the revised and found that the updated results support the conclusions of the article.
At the request of the Journal Editor and Sage, a correction has been issued and the article has been updated as follows:
The Abstract on page 857 was corrected to indicate that the Gastrointestinal Function subscale contribute the most to the total score and decreased across the first 6 months of life, then stabilized in the 6-7 month age group.
Within the Statistical Analysis section on page 859, the Shapiro-Wilk test for the Infant Regulation subscale was changed from 0.86 to 0.98.
Within the Results section on page 860, the text was corrected to indicate that the most significant decrease in total score occurred between the 0 – 2 and 2 – 4 month age groups, not the 4 – 6 and 6 – 7 month age groups.
Within the Results section on page 860, several sentences relating to the Infant Regulation subscale were removed and the results were corrected to indicate that the Infant Regulation subscale, Gastrointestinal Tract Function subscale, and Energy & Physiologic Stability subscale all had a downward trajectory with increasing child age.
Within the Discussion section on page 862, several sentences relating to the Total score and Infant Regulation subscale scores were removed. The Discussion section was updated to indicate that changes in infant sleep patterns and maturation of the brain may explain the improvements in the Infant Regulation and Energy & Physiologic Stability subscale scores.
On Page 860 in Table 3, data in the Infant Regulation column and the Total Score column have been corrected for the median, IQR, 90th PCTL, and 95th PCTL rows for the 0 – 2 months, 2 – 4 months, 4 – 6 months, and 6 – 7 months age groups.
On Page 861, Figures 1 and 2 have been replaced with revised figures.
This correction notice supersedes the Expression of Concern placed 21st April 2025 (10.1177/00099228251337932).
