Abstract

The Indian Economic Journal (IEJ) is a peer reviewed quarterly journal of the Indian Economic Association (IEA) published since 1954. The contributions of the IEA for the last 100 years and of the IEJ over the last 65 years to the cause of fostering teaching and research of high standards in India and also generating debate on the issues of relevance in economics and related disciplines have been exemplary.
We are pleased to share that from its 64th year of publication, the IEJ (volume 64) was published by the SAGE Publications. This (65th) volume is also being published as single issue. Starting February 2018, submission to IEJ is online on the Sage website which is a web based online submission and peer review system (https://peerreview.sagepub.com/iej). This is helping us in speedy processing of the submissions to the IEJ.
At the time of transition of the publication of IEJ to the Sage Publications, there was a large backlog of papers to be processed for publication due to sad illness and sad demise of the then Editor. Since the continuity of the publication of the journal has been the necessary condition for publication of the IEJ by Sage, we along with the Secretary and Treasurer of the IEA, Dr. Anil Thakur, have been working towards maintaining the continuity of the publication by clearing the backlog.
The IEJ has been mandated to publish original research articles on economic theory and empirical articles with sound theoretical and methodological framework focussing on economic policy issues in general and India in particular. The IEJ also has a section on communications for debate and research that serves as forum for discussion of theoretical and empirical policy issues. In addition, the journal has a section on book reviews. The book reviews considered for publication are, generally, commissioned by the IEJ Editorial Board that are received from the national and international publishers. The Editorial Board may also consider requests for publication of book review. We also have provision to bring out special issues on themes relevant to theory and policy issues under the Guest Editorship of eminent economists.
This is also the policy of the IEJ to encourage young cohort of teachers and researchers, particularly faculty from the colleges and the state universities, to submit their research for publication. We at the IEJ would specifically encourage the women teachers and researchers to submit their work for publication. The IEJ Editorial Board will strive to extend support to these researchers to improve their research writing capabilities through interaction during the annual and regional IEA conferences. In addition, the IEJ editorial board will form a group of established scholars to extend support to younger researchers.
