Program directors of 38 collaborative award-winning ATE programs from 1977-1989 were surveyed to determine which programs still existed, which had changed and why. Of the 38 programs, 31 were still in operation. Reasons for program termination included changes in program emphasis, loss of funding, loss of key personnel, and lack of administrative support. Characteristics of successful school/university partnerships are discussed, and a holistic approach to teacher education collaboration is recommended.
