Abstract
This special issue on Internet of Things and applications resulted from the 2015 International Forum of IoT and Applications (IF[IoT&A]), held in Wuhan on 26–27th November, 2015. The international forum brought together academics, scientists, engineers and postgraduate students to exchange and share their knowledge and research results on all aspects of Internet of Things (IoT) and to discuss practical challenges and solutions. The topics covered include: IoT developments and prospects; IoT standards and information security; sensors and sensor technologies; RFID and traceability; computer and network technologies; communication platforms and interfaces; M2M communications; IoT system integration; wireless power supply technologies; data management and processing techniques; antennas and propagation in IoT; measurement and control in IoT; IoT applications in transportation, logistics, industry, health, utilities; smart homes, buildings, grids and cities; human centered IoT.
The event was supported by the Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Measurement and Control. Following the submission of abstracts to the international forum, 10 extended full papers have been reviewed and chosen for inclusion in this special issue. Collectively, these papers have addressed several key issues in IoT and applications including cloud-based cyber manufacturing, human-machine interfaces, decision support model, wireless sensors and data links, real-time production logistics synchronization, collaborative information fusion, and implementation of RFID middleware etc. They have also demonstrated the importance of IoT across a spectrum of topics and its emerging importance in measurement and control. I am therefore delighted to present these papers for your further study.
