ISO 7730 (1984) Annex E provides 'look-up' tables of the predicted mean vote at 50% relative humidity for a range of operative temperatures, mean air velocities, activity levels and clothing resistance values. The suitability of Annex E for speedy assessment of comfort conditions is discussed with the aid of examples. The dangers of its injudicious use are illustrated, particularly with reference to discrepancies between ISO 7730 and Fanger's comfort equations, and to the assignment of M (met) and CL (clo) values for given real-life situations.
