The purpose of this study was to develop programmed instruction in orientation and mobility for multiply impaired low vision children. Scales were developed for each of four major areas—motor development, sensory training, concept development, and mobility skills—and programmed instruction was written for each scale. The programmed instruction was validated with 44 multiply impaired low vision children in nine facilities in a 16-week field test. The experimental group using the programmed instructional materials demonstrated significant overall performance gains over a control group.
