Available in mid-May, AADE’s newest title raises awareness of the unique challenges seniors face when managing their diabetes.
Based on the AADE7 Self-Care Behaviors™ each chapter provides a:
discussion of the specific risks and challenges faced by seniors with diabetes, including physical and cognitive changes and limitations, polypharmacy management, and increased risk for complications and hypoglycemia;
facts section that underscores specific issues affecting seniors with diabetes;
solutions section that suggests options for managing or reducing the risks;
case study that illustrates a typical scenario a diabetes educator might encounter when managing multiple challenges that can occur with the aging process.
Best of all, you’ll be able to earn CE credit from the lessons in this book. The number of credits is still to be determined, but keep checking the AADE website.

Advance Your Career With the BC-ADM Certification
As more employers seek out professionals who can manage a wide range of diabetes-related conditions, the BC-ADM certification can enhance your career. The credential is open to health care professionals including advanced practice nurses, registered dietitians, pharmacists, master’s-prepared registered nurses, physician assistants, and physicians.
The BC-ADM credential demonstrates expert knowledge and skill in advanced diabetes management. It incorporates patient management skills such as medication adjustment, medical nutrition therapy, exercise planning, counseling for behavior management and psychosocial issues, as well as treatment and monitoring of acute and chronic complications.
It is an ideal credential for an advanced diabetes educator or medical doctor looking to demonstrate expertise in advanced diabetes practice and patient care. The degree is an ideal way for diabetologist physicians to distinguish themselves as experts in the treatment of diabetes.
Eligible professionals will need to:
have an active license in one of the aforementioned professions;
hold a master’s or higher degree in a relevant clinical, educational, or management area;
have completed 500 clinical practice hours within 48 months prior to taking the exam.
The next exam will be in December 2013. The deadline to register for the December exam is November 1. You may register between November 1 and November 15, but a late registration fee will apply.
Learn more about the BC-ADM credential online at www.diabeteseducator.org/bc-adm.
