Abstract

Join Us for AADE16
Register by April 22 for the Lowest Rate
AADE16 is taking San Diego, California, by storm from Friday, August 12 to Monday, August 15, 2016! We are hard at work planning every detail to make sure this is the best meeting yet.
We have shifted the meeting’s date and pattern to reduce the amount of time you spend out of the office. We have held the registration rate steady. Register by Friday, April 22 to lock in the lowest rate. We have also brought back the popular Roommate Forum on MY AADE NETWORK to put you in contact with other attendees who are looking to split room costs at the meeting.
Visit aade16.org for an overview of this year’s program and registration/housing information.
AADE Sets Direction for 2016-2018
Learn more about AADE’s 2016-2018 Strategic Plan, which provides a roadmap to help us realize our updated mission statement—to empower diabetes educators to expand the horizons of innovative education, management, and support. The plan addresses the factors that are influencing today’s diabetes educator, including new and emerging roles, technology and the connected health environment, and new models of affordable care. It commits AADE to being the diabetes educators’ top resource for professional development and career enhancement and their representative in conversations with legislators, fellow health care professional associations, and other important decision makers. Get to the CORE of Diabetes Education
Make 2016 your year to learn the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the CDE exam by signing up for a CORE Concepts Course. Earn 22 CE as you explore the clinical management and diabetes self-management tools that are effective in helping your patients achieve successful outcomes.
For your convenience, CORE Concepts is offered in 2 formats. If you prefer to learn in person, join 3 expert instructors and 9 colleagues for 3 days devoted to diabetes education. If online courses suit you, register for a 9-week course with an instructor to guide your learning and offers discussion forums that allow you to interact with your peers.

AADE Systematic Review Demonstrates Benefits of DSME
Patient Education and Counseling journal has published data showing that when added to usual diabetes care, DSME improves blood glucose control, equating to a reduction in A1C of nearly 0.6% compared with usual care alone. This AADE Foundation–funded research also demonstrated that DSME provides even greater benefit to people with diabetes who have persistently elevated glycemic values (an A1C of greater than 9%).
