Abstract

Woodson et al reported on the results of a novel adjustable tongue-advancement device for obstructive sleep apnea in the October 2010 issue of this journal. 1
The development of the concept of this device and the preclinical studies were performed by our group, and the study protocol was developed by an extensive cooperation between our group and the author’s group. We therefore think that the authors need to refer to the previously performed animal study evaluating the feasibility, safety, and histology of this device in a canine model 2 and to the first human clinical multicenter study evaluating the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of this device 3 to give the reader a complete overview of the background of this technique.
