Abstract
We thank the authors for their commentary, “Nonopioid Combination Formulations,” and appreciate the effort to increase awareness on use of these combination formulations as a multimodal analgesia option. There is limited and conflicting evidence on efficacy of the combination medicines, and the data are limited on use of these medications in the postoperative time period.1,2 In addition, studies that have evaluated efficacy of combination medicines have not been able to conclusively confirm the incidence of side effects, adverse events, or safety of their use.3,4 These variations in outcomes and limited data did not allow for inclusion of combination medications in the clinical practice guideline. 5 We agree with the authors on the need for future trials and studies on efficacy and safety of combination medicines.
