Bernard Harrison is a Professor in
the Division of Education at the
University of Sheffield. In this paper
he examines some problems of
meanings and values which can
occur with regard to such widely used
terms in management discourse as
'power', 'team-work', and 'quality'
and does so from both a 'moral law'
and a `role-theory' viewpoint. In
conclusion he advocates a critical—
ethical alternative to narrowly
economic versions of educational
management.
