From January to January: teaching the spelling of initial consonant clusters to a boy with a phonological disability

The study gives a description of one year's teaching of a single aspect of spelling to an 11-year-old boy with a phonological handicap and a weakness in recognizing and remembering visual patterns. The aspect of spelling taught is initial consonant clusters. Changes of approach over the year are explained, teaching procedures are described, and details are given of the pupil's performance at different stages of the instruction process. Some theoretical and practical questions raised by the study are discussed.
