Wear characteristics of spherical contact considering temperature and roughness based on an energy dissipation model

Wear is an important factor affecting the service life and reliability of mechanical parts and is one of the most common topics in tribology. Excessive wear may also lead to early failure of parts, resulting in mechanical failures, economic losses, and safety hazards. Since the existing studies do not consider the wear under different working conditions for the same spherical kinematic pair, we establish a numerical wear method for the spherical kinematic pair under different temperatures and surface roughness based on the energy dissipation model. The numerical wear model performs multi-temperature wear simulations by varying the wear coefficients for different environmental temperatures and energy dissipation models while defining the material properties at different temperatures. The wear simulation of rough surfaces is performed by varying the generated contact surface roughness. The method of this numerical model is simple, and the simulation results are close to the experimental results. Therefore, this numerical study provides a new idea for future research on the friction and wear behavior of moving parts of mechanical structures.
