Upcoming Courses
Register online at www.sportsmed.org/registration for the International Football & Sports Medicine Conference. The meeting will be held March 22 through 24, 2002, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, and will offer simultaneous translation in French and Spanish. This first-time international soccer conference is a joint partnership between FIFA, US Soccer, and AOSSM. An international faculty from over 20 countries will add luster to an agenda that offers the latest insights into soccer performance, preparation of the player, factors affecting performance, and much more. Contact AOSSM at 847/292-4900 or 877/321-2500 (toll free) for more information about the conference.
The highlight of the educational calendar, the AOSSM 28th Annual Meeting, takes place June 30 through July 3, 2002, at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando, Florida. The timing is perfect for families to take advantage of all the special activities during the “100 Years of Disney” celebration. The Presidential Guest Speaker, NASA astronaut Michael L. Gernhardt, PhD, will share his spacewalk experiences to an enthralled audience. In addition to cutting-edge research papers, highlights include treatment of ankle instability in the athlete, a concussion current concepts session, and a roundtable workshop entitled “Coping with the Realities of a Modern Sports Medicine Practice.” Instructional courses will provide three mornings of valuable topics—some successful traditions and exciting new ones, including a new technology offering, “Medical Uses for the PDA.” Look for the preliminary program that will be mailed in March 2002. Check out housing information and more at www.sportsmed.org or call AOSSM toll-free at 877/321-2500 (or 847/292-4900).
Save the date for the next annual AOSSM Surgical Skills Course. This laboratory course will focus on the knee and is scheduled September 13 to 15, 2002, at the Orthopaedic Learning Center in Rosemont, Illinois. Cochairs Richard D. Parker, MD, and David R. McAllister, MD, look forward to the preliminary program being mailed in the spring. For further information, contact the Society office toll-free at 877/321-3500 (or 847/292-4900).
