The two basic sliding techniques, head-first and feet- first, were analyzed kinematically with high speed cin ematography. Four phases were identified with each technique: sprint, attainment of sliding position, air borne, and landing. The velocity and displacement of the center of gravity were measured with each tech nique. The study was primarily descriptive but demon strated potential for injury with each technique. Further studies are needed to determine which technique is safer and faster.
