Abstract
This paper indicates the theoretical and practical difficulties encountered by the teacher of, and the trainee in, psychotherapy. It discusses the training of psychotherapists in view of present day community needs. Five conditions are mentioned which are necessary for a training program in psychotherapy:
1) A well planned curriculum as it relates to the teaching of the theory and practice of psychotherapy with opportunity for diversified psychotherapeutic activities.
2) A teaching staff with diverse orientation.
3) Bio-psycho-social orientation in psychiatric diagnosis and treatment.
4) Close collaboration with non-psychiatric psychotherapists.
5) Historical perspective.
