Advocacy efforts by local administrators—mandated by federal
law—is the focus of this report. Data were collected from
selected Florida communities. Cluster analysis was utilized to
select the communities; surveys and site analysis provided the
data. Even though Florida has a highly visible senior population
and a disproportionate share of the nation's elders, local policy
advocacy by and on behalf of seniors was not found to be very in
tense. A survey among older persons suggested that senior
political orientations were important to this lack of intensity.
One potential exception to these findings is noted and described.
