Abstract
Career assessment is the foundation upon which school systems and community agencies should base services to special needs students in order to insure a successful transition through school to community living. The assessment of interests, skills, and needs of handicapped students related to work, home, community, and leisure is critical if public schools and community agencies are to provide services leading to effective community integration. Career assessment should begin at a very young age, be closely connected to functional curriculum, and be an integral part of the comprehensive assessment process for all handicapped students. This article describes a framework that is designed to assist personnel in developing a community-wide, interagency process of career assessment.
