Abstract

Dear Editor,
We congratulate Jancic et al for their study titled “Pattern-Reversal Visual Evoked Potential Parameters and Migraine in the Teenage Population.” 1 The authors investigated the difference in N1, P1, and N2 amplitude and latency values between migraine patients with and without aura and control subjects. As the authors stated, most of the neurophysiologic studies in migraine patients addressed adult migraineurs. Significant negative correlation between amplitude and the presence of tunnel vision is an important finding.
We have read the article with great interest. We noticed that the authors did not show mean (standard deviation) values of amplitude and latency in migraine patients with and without aura and healthy control subjects. Instead, the authors preferred to categorize the migraine patients according to the normative data obtained from the control subjects and investigated the difference between the groups by means of chi-square test. For us, this method cannot be regarded as inappropriate. However, we think that independent sample t test (or Mann-Whitney U test where appropriate) would be a better choice to compare the groups. We kindly ask the authors to show the mean (standard deviation) values in the groups as a table or figure. We think that these results may show the amplitude and latency differences between the groups in a more satisfactory way.
