Abstract

In the Journal of Intensive Care Medicine article “Contemporary Management of the High-Risk Pulmonary Embolism: The Clot Thickens” by Reardon et al, first published online: August 1, 2018, there appears to be an error in the last sentence on the first column on page 2 “The most frequently recommended method is a weight-based dose of TNK (30-50 mg) or tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) at a dose of 100 mg over 2 hours.” The term tissue plasminogen activator refers to a class of medications, to which both tenecteplase (TNK) and alteplase belong. Alteplase seems to be often used interchangeably with tPA; however alteplase is a medication, while tPA is a class of medications. I believe the authors meant to use alteplase instead of tPA in this sentence.
