Abstract

It is our great pleasure to announce a new research award named in honor of Miriam Labbok, MD, MPH, IBCLC, an international leader in lactation advocacy, research, and mentorship whose work touched many of our lives. Among her many other lifetime accomplishments, she was the founding director of the Gillings School’s Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, where she was instrumental in providing educational and research experiences for new researchers. In addition, Dr Labbok served on the Journal of Human Lactation editorial review board, helping to maintain the quality of our journal.
The Miriam Labbok New Investigator Award will be given to a novice researcher whose JHL published research has made a significant contribution to the body of lactation knowledge, as determined by our editorial review board. All articles published by new investigators between May 2016 and May 2017 will be considered for the 2017 award, which will be announced at the July 2017 ILCA conference.
