Re-thinking the school year

If it ain't broke don't fix it, goes the modern proverb. But how healthy is the engine that drives school organisation - the school calendar? Are three terms, designed for a society that lived in a pre-technological rural economy, still relevant to 21^st century students? An increasing number of educators and education managers think not.
