Purpose: The purpose of this theory guided COVID-19 project was to address the self-care needs of caregivers to enhance the care needs of caregivers to enhance the care provided by nurses to the patients and their families who daily confront needs derived from the patients as well as the nurses and their families who daily confront the demands created by the pandemic. Study design: The organization's professional practices are guided by Watson's Theory of Human Caring & Caritas Processes. Sixteen Caritas coaches who previously acquired expertise in human caring participated in this project. Methods: Sixteen Caritas coaches were mobilized to implement holistic caring from an accredited program of the Watson Caring Science Institute. Findings: By addressing the self-care needs of caregivers, the organizational culture shifted from fear, fatigue, stress, and burnout to more intentional consciousness, mindfulness, caring presence, gratitude, and purpose. Conclusion: This study has implications for other institutions related to theory guided practice and system responses to the self-care needs of staff.
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:
