Abstract

Dr P. Balakrishnan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Chennai, with over a decade of research experience in aeroacoustics, jet noise reduction, flow dynamics, and vibration-related energy systems. He obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, where his doctoral research focused on jet noise reduction using co-axial swirlers, leading to a patented methodology for optimal swirl number selection. Dr Balakrishnan has held postdoctoral research positions at IIT Madras and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), China, where he conducted advanced experimental studies on aircraft wing stall noise reduction. His research contributions span aeroacoustics, renewable energy systems, thermal management, solar technologies, and noise mitigation in aerospace and industrial applications, with publications in leading international journals. He is a recipient of the INCE Young Professional Grant Award and serves as a reviewer for several international journals. He also serves as a mentor and research advisor for Government of India–supported startup and innovation programs, with a focus on drone technologies and 3D modelling applications. Dr Balakrishnan continues to actively contribute to the global noise and vibration research community through interdisciplinary research, editorial activities, and conference leadership.
