Abstract

Medicines prescribing is a key tenet to the intervention we offer in general practice. Over a billion prescriptions are dispensed every year with a growing importance as to how well that is managed within the practice as a key pillar of safety by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of electronic prescribing and taken us forward in many ways, with a near universal adoption across most patient groups now. Many prescription requests are now digital for practices with the NHS App accelerating uptake of patients opting to use a digital format. The emergence of provider entities with the formation of primary care networks (PCNs) as part of the soon-to-be-legally established integrated care systems (ICSs), alongside the evolution of the role of clinical pharmacists within primary care, brings in more capacity. We hope this updated chapter offers an update on the opportunities to lessen your load.
