Abstract

In the May issue of 2026, Rationality and Society published in its forum pages the position statement “Standards in sociology: A position statement at the 25th anniversary of the European Academy of Sociology” (Aksoy et al., 2026). As an editor, I invited readers to submit comments which, after light editorial review, could also be published in the forum pages of the journal (Flache, 2026).
It is my great pleasure to announce that in the current August 2026 issue we can publish four comments on Akoy et al.’s position statement. These comments were authored by, respectively, Filippo Barbera, Wojtek Przepiorka, Torbjørn Skardhamar and Fanqi Zeng.
To sustain a fruitful academic debate about standards in sociology, the authors of Aksoy et al. were invited to formulate a response to these comments which, possibly alongside further comments, we expect to publish in the November 2026 issue of the journal. Additional comments can still be submitted until August 31, 2026.
Andreas Flache, Editor-in-Chief Rationality and Society, Groningen, July 2026.
