Abstract

You pee yourself, my dear friend, As you choke, cough, and lose control.
Chemo does its worst,
When the worst becomes your routine.
Pack extra undies,
Wherever you roam.
Resilience does its best,
When the world goes rogue.
How do you feel
When no one is around?
Shower yourself,
As your hair falls like rain.
Chemo does its worst,
Yet you stand through the pain.
Newfound freedom,
Thanks to a bare yet clear head.
Agency does its best,
When securing you the last laugh.
How are you holding up
When the storm becomes nonstop?
Strain beneath the weight,
Of cascading bills to be paid.
Chemo does its worst,
Yet you find your way.
Hobbies become lifelines,
For much-needed distraction and cash.
Ingenuity does its best,
When helping you pull yourself up.
How did you stay strong
When the world keeps letting you down?
Brace yourself now,
For broken bonds.
Chemo does its worst,
Revealing the cruelty of some.
Old ties may snap and fray,
But new ones emerge through the gentle whispers of hope—
Like that single bloom forcing through the sidewalk crack,
Vibrant and stubborn against the always difficult rock.
Wisdom does its best,
When guiding you through the awakening of the soul.
How could you not rebuild
When the heart craves more than a solid ground to stand upon?
