Abstract

The Advertising Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication invites nominations for the division’s Distinguished Teaching Award. The award recognizes individual excellence in undergraduate teaching over a sustained period of time. The recipient will receive a $500 award and be recognized at the Advertising Division business meeting at the 2019 AEJMC annual conference in Toronto.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, a nominee must be a member of the Advertising Division and have at least seven years of teaching experience as a full-time faculty member. For this award, “full-time faculty member” is defined as an individual serving in a tenure-track, clinical, instructor, professor of practice, or full-time lecturer position.
Note: Time spent teaching during graduate school or as a visiting professor or adjunct instructor does not count toward the years of eligibility. Years teaching as a full-time faculty member at two or more different institutions should be summed (e.g., two years at University A and three years at University B would count as five years total).
WHO MAY NOMINATE?
Eligible faculty can self-nominate or be nominated by a faculty member or administrator (e.g., department chair or head, dean) who currently works in the same department, college and/or university as the faculty member being nominated.
OVERVIEW OF SELECTION PROCESS
A two-step process is used to determine the recipient of the Distinguished Teaching Award. The first step requires nomination materials, including a nomination letter (or letter of support if self-nomination), nominee statement and current curriculum vita. (See below for additional details.) First-round materials will be reviewed by the division’s Distinguished Teaching Award Selection Committee. A group of between two and five finalists will be invited to submit additional materials. Second-round materials include a teaching portfolio, statement of teaching philosophy, list of courses and numeric student evaluations for last three years and two letters of support from former students. (Finalists will receive additional details about second-round materials.) The committee will review second-round materials and select the 2019 Distinguished Teaching Award winner.
